AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack was announced on September 29, 2008 and was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 on November 2nd. The Wii version was released on November 16, 2008. The pack contains all 18 tracks from AC/DC's album Live at Donington. The game, through pre-existing licensing deals that AC/DC has with the retail chains,[1] is only available at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.[2] This exclusivity agreement is only applicable in the United States. Each copy of the track pack includes a code that can be redeemed online to allow Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners to download the content to their console for use in other Rock Band titles. The game can also be played as a standalone title, including a number of Achievements for Xbox 360 owners, but otherwise does not feature many of the gameplay elements of the full Rock Band titles, such as character creation or customization, online play, or a World Tour mode.[1] The track pack retails for $30 for the PS2 version and $40 for other consoles.[3][2] The Guitar Hero guitar for Wii is compatible with this game. Harmonix has confirmed that the songs will remain exclusive to the disc release, citing AC/DC's preference to sell their music as full albums instead of singles. They have not ruled out releasing the content in the future should the band's views change.[4]

Trivia[]

  • This was the first Rock Band game for a few things:
    • The first Rock Band game to have Guitar Hero instruments compatible with the Wii version.
    • The first Rock Band track pack to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
    • The first Rock Band game to have characters that were not featured in any version of the first Rock Band in the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions. Each of the four characters would have two different outfits and whichever outfit worn varied on which song was being played.
  • This was also the only Rock Band game for a few things:
    • The only track pack that contains music from only one artist.
    • The only Rock Band game to contain only live versions of songs.
    • The only track pack to contain only 18 songs. Because of this, this track pack has the least number of songs out of any game in the Rock Band series.
    • The only track pack not to have any of its songs released as DLC in any way shape or form.
    • The only Rock Band game to have the four characters in the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions, though they were featured in a Rock Band DLC trailer playing the song Joker and the Thief.
  • Despite the game using the graphics and note tracks from the first Rock Band, many promotional images use the graphics and note tracks from Rock Band 2 and feature characters that aren't in any version of this game.
  • The code included with this game still works on Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 as of October 9th, 2023.
    • This also applies to the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 due to those consoles having Rock Band 4 which these songs are compatible with.
