Float On is a song by Modest Mouse which was written to reassure that everything will be all right with life. Lead singer Isaac Brock had lost two close friends in life and felt he needed to be reassured with the good things in life. (Thanks, George C. Scott - Buffalo, NY)

Modest Mouse has written about many depressing themes, and they wanted to write a happier album. Float On is just a song about how bad things will always get better eventually. (Thanks, Meg - Worcester, MA)

A group called The Floaters recorded a song with the same title in 1977, but they are completely different songs.

The video takes place by a sheep slaughterhouse. As the sheep get rounded and get taken to the slaughterhouse, they become scared. The song seems to be reassuring the sheep that it's OK and that even if they die, they'll "All float on." (Thanks, Bindo - Fayetteville, AR)

This was Isaac Brock's conscious attempt to write a catchy upbeat song. It worked well, although many people know the band only for this song. (Thanks, Marshall - Rochester, MN)

This song was used in the video games Rock Band 2 and Rock Band Unplugged.
